Post by infiniteB » Wed Jun 23, 2010 11:34 pm

I'm not really sure I understand... I've tried to google midi pattern library and didn't find much.

If you slice-to-midi with Live, you could just change the drum sounds in the rack and still use the midi from it. Wouldn't that be the same?

I hear good things for Stylus RMX :) I just wish Spectrasonics would sell a plain version, not the Xpanded one. I don't need near all 5 of those expansions.

As for MIDI files, I know if you have Melodyne, for example, you can load an audio file and then export to MIDI.

Alternatively, load the break into Live on an audio track, then fire up a MIDI track and get to work emulating it. ;) do this with many breaks and you'll soon be a drums and percussion mastah!

Drums are my weakest point and being able to do them on my own finally is VERY satisfying.

It wouldn't "look" like a typical MIDI file but yeah, it should work about the same as long as it's all lined up nice and tight when sliced to transients. As far as the project it was sliced in is concerned anyway.

**edit** another thought, is after you slice to MIDI you can then chop it all up in arrange view and arrange all the kicks on say, C1, snares on whatever you normally yse, etc and then when it's how you want, consolidate and export the clip to MIDI and now you'll have your very own MIDI file ready to go for other projects.
I don't 'produce.' I write music.

slice to midi

I don't get it, you can slice audio loops to midi???

does it detect kicks / snares / hihats??? and then make a midi clip out of the audio clip, with different notes reflecting the different instruments of the audio loop??

is it a live 8 only feature? (I'm on 7).

Yep its in 7, Right Click an Audio Loop and Slice to Midi. You will have to do some additional work (each hit has a different midi note) to group the kicks, hihats, etc - but this is a good way to get a cool rhythm down.

2 things:

1. Lots of free midi sites out there, google "free midi files 'drum and bass' d'n'b" Even try hip hop or funk files at high bpm's.

2. I have a midi drum kit, midi guitar (for bass lines), and a midi keyboard and would be willing to send you clips or collaborate.
