Please help! Syncing laptops for video

Post by giblespaul89 » Sat Jul 03, 2010 8:33 pm

Hey

I really need some help, what i'm trying to do is sync two laptops in ableton and use them together live. One laptop to run samples etc and another one to run the video, which i'll set up to a projector.

I've been all over the forums to try and figure this out. Live can play video in arrangement view and then use locaters to trigger the play point of the video. So what i thought originally is that if i sync two laptops together and use one midi controller (behringer fcb1010)

So i'm trying to get
LAPTOP 1 (to play samples mapped to midi 1/1)
and
LAPTOP 2 (to play locater mapped to midi 1/1)

So hopefully the first laptop can play the music and the other one plays the locaters in arrangement view (ie the video.) Does anyone know if this is at all possible?
I've tried this at the moment and synced them successfully but when playing midi point 1/1 it only launches the control on one laptop.

If this doesn't work the only thing i can think of is getting something like a midi merge or a midi splitter cable (if it exists) and trying to get one midi output to split into 2. The only problem i've found with that is that midi merges are expensive from the looks of it. Unless anyone knows anything else?

Any help would be massively appreciated! I'm really stuck here.
