weird problem with Alchemy

i've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out, and i wonder if anyone has had a similar issue. i'm on Live 7 and just bought Alchemy. it seemed to work fine at first, but now whenever i have Alchemy loaded in a set and hit STOP(spacebar or transport controls on APC) the CPU indicator jumps to like 921% and it zaps my soundcard(Edirol FA-66) such that any note i press on any track after that is delayed by quite a lot. if i then disable then enable the soundcard, it goes back to normal(till i hit stop again). this happens even if Alchemy is not playing, just sitting in a track. needless to say, this BLOWS. i've never had this happen with any other plug-in or instrument. anyone else get this or have some clue?
