Post by Khazul » Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:47 pm

<Rant!>

... and basically being made to feel like a theif?
FFS - ableton - how many others have 2 suite licenses? Do you really need to treat us like theives everytime we update our computers etc?

Bad enough steinbergs horible atttitude - grrrrr!

Yes - thanks for giving me ONE more authorisation rather than a reset to three - what you think Im going to do? sell it on street corners or something?

Sort the damn licensing out FFS! I shouldn't need your permission to update my PC!

Not impressed - not impressed at all!

Grrrr!

Come on man, how many times are you reinstalling/upgrading/reformatting?!
I reformat or upgrade like once or twice a year. Waiting a day for support to send me a new auth code really isn't a big deal to me.

did you try contacting support? frame it as a bug and they might be able to greenlight it as something to work on.

how big of an update was it?

I too have always found them to be very good with authorisations and to be quite honest, I don't blame them for using the method they do.

I've just blown up my laptop so will be asking for an authorisation once I get a replacement. What I generally do, is ask them a couple of days in advance and it goes through without a hitch.

There's plenty of things to rant to the Abes over, my experience is, this isn't one of them.

I've required 3 hard drive re-installs, one new computer a while ago and a couple of authorization requests needed, have been happy with the responses from Ableton and didn't feel like I was begging and Abes didn't treat me like I was begging.

I admit, getting the dialogue box telling you you are out of installs is a bit annoying, but past that, they do a good job and have been prompt and never given me a hard time about it.

Reinstalls for whatever reason - Im tired of having to beg, doesnt matter how many times a year - I dont have enough auths for a system reinstall.

The whole point about this - I dont want to have to beg again if for some unexpected reason I have to re-install in a hurry (more than likely out of ableton office hours), but they are being so mean with the auths, so if computer goes down - then Im screwed until I can get another auth - great - thanks so much - I have to choose between the 64 bit install with certain hardware and the 32 bit install with more hardware that has no 64 bit drivers.

Yes - I did the web mail thing to get another auth - and yes they added ONE eventually!!! This computer runs two auths for the two OSs installed (XP and Win7). If I need to get this machine restored for some reason on a weekend, then Im screwed - sorry mate, no recording today because Ableton are being mean with authorisations that I shouldnt even have to beg for at all. They know exactly what I am running, so why one auth? Ive allways responding to you-run-out email (its it is allways annoying to even have to do this), but this time they are being rediculous rather than resetting as before.

No such begging even with Steinberg (yeh - I know they have the tough shit approach to lost dongles instead), Propellerheads, any plugins, office, windows etc etc - just ableton.

What the hell do they expect? me to buy a new suite everytime I need to reinstall ffs?

Begging in the first pace is damned annoying, but when someone there thinks its funny to give one damned auth - thats has relly pissed me off.

Then don't beg, just ask. It's far less demeaning and much better for the soul.

Sorry mate - would normally let one's right to rant go unchallenged, but in this case I had to say something. I've always found Ableton to be one of the best companies for customer service. I'm also in the process of updating, and had no problems getting two new authorisations confirmed. I totally understand why Ableton do it and support them 100% on this one. Couple of years ago I had a run of bad luck with one laptop having its screen broken, then the replacement having my cat spill tea all over it! Ableton were again supportive, and gave me new authorisations straight away. During the last Able10 promotion, I'd just upgraded to Suite 8 before the promotion and missed out. I emailed Ableton and they gave me 50 Euros credit on the website, which meant I could afford Max 4 Live. Like the last post said - don't 'beg,' just ask. I'm sure you'll find it much less stressful.

Abletons method still shits on using a dongle (now that something that pisses me off) which is a real pain in the ass when you loose one. I have always just sent them an email explaining the reason why i need on and its easy. I have even gotten multiple codes at once (although that was one for 7 and one for 8 ) maybe ask them for multiples and see what happens.

Yeah... I have never ever had even a minute of trouble with this- all you have to do is tell them what you're doing- I think they are remarkably flexible on this.

Been there - done that - they chose to take the piss - hence why pissed off, hence percveption that their customer service is on the lines 'screw you mr customer'

As for dongles - they are simple - just plug them in once authorised (once only and forever), and install as many times and on as many machine as you need to. No messing about, no taking the piss with authorisations (or lack of) etc. Ive spend the last few days reinstalling software and plugins - guess which ones were quick and zero hassle - yes - the dongle protected ones - the rest have been a right pain locating auth keys etc (at least ableton do auto auth now, so you dont have to find it and type it in again along with the other 50+ keys for various things as well).

What annoys me about dongles is the various competing systems - just wish they would all agree on a single standard and have the option to buy a single dongle of the kind of robustness that the props ignition key is rather than that horrible bit of cheap fragile plastic that steinberg use.

Even if they could allow for deactivation via the web so you can refromat, etc with having to deal with someone who cant count, too stupid to do what is asked/doesnt give a shit or whatever the damned excuse is.

no offence but you really need to calm down, your making an issue out of none, yeah, they dont work weekends, and it might take a while for them to get to you, but like others have said, hit them up in advance..

abletons unlocking is so much easier then alot of companies and is the fucking business over iloks or other dongles which are a complete pain in the ass, specially if mobile recording on a laptop and limited to maybe 2 or 3 usb slots..

look your bitching and whining about nothing, you know when your gonna be updating your system, you know when they are closed and that it can take a day or 2, its your fault for not getting onto them sooner
