File Browser sample preview volume control?

Post by Vass » Sat Jul 17, 2010 3:23 pm

Hi,

Is there a way i can turn down the playback volume when previewing samples in the file browser. It is considerably louder that what ever project im working on and im getting a little fed up adjusting the volume on my soundcard everytime i want to preview something!

Thanks!!! Much appreciated.

Brilliant!

I always seem to kick myself after getting answers to these kinds of questions! Seems so obvious, apparently not to me!

Thanks!

^^^ maybe reading the manual from time to time helps?

well, i am the right guy to say that i HATE reading manuals, especially when they are in german (and the german version of the live manual is a prime example on how super bad manuals can be!)

besides any product that really requires reading it, is a badly designed one... which does not apply to live, so simply spend more time fiddling about with it!!

Thank you again "Carpet Cleaner"!
Yeah as a matter a fact I did read the f-ing manual before searching for this tip here.
It reads on the last line of the page, (For Ableton 9 - Eng) "The previewing volume can be adjusted using the mixer’s Preview Volume knob."

WTF (WhereTheF*) is that? Lol - now I realize that "the mixer’s Preview Volume knob" is what everyone else on the planet calls the "Cue". :)

Also, just in case it helps someone else, adjusting the cue volume also controls the volume of the metronome.

I was just struggling with not hearing the sample previews. Be aware, as I just discovered, that these PREVIEWS of SAMPLES have a volume control. It is the same one (for those who did not understand a prior poster above referring to it as a "blue ring,") as used for the volume of your metronome. Go to the Master track (which is at the bottom of the Arrangement view, just below your lowest track - and typically below Reverb and Delay tracks) (you won't see this volume control in Session View). The first rectangle is the volume control for that Master track, the second one to the right of that volume control is the Volume Control for both the Metronome AND this sample preview. So if you can't hear your samples, which should play once you click on each one (assuming the headphone icon at the bottom of the preview window is highlighted) do check this Metronome/Sample Preview window first to make sure the volume is up enough for you.
