My review is pretty much the same as the last release. It's Pretty Lights doing the Pretty Lights formula: sampled and chopped old obscure vinyl, drop the Hip Hop or R&B beat, here comes the analog bass line with ample filter noodling, season with obscure old R&B vocal lines, movie dialogue, or Hip Hop acapellas.
Still 10 times better than anything I could come up with but continuing to be a little too formulaic. Checking my library I have 56 Pretty Lights tracks which came out in something like 2 years. I admire how prolific his music is, especially considering how much they are on the road, but damn, wish I could be blown away like I was the first couple of albums.
Pretty Lights is becoming the opposite of Glitch Mob, better to experience live than blasting at home.
IMO.

I agree with your general review. I'm not liking this new EP as much as the previous EP and nowhere near as much as 'Passing Behind...' which I think of as his peak moment.
Something has got to give....it is all a little too obvious now.

necrobump aside, I pretty much stopped paying attention to Pretty Lights new releases for the same reasons I said in this post in 2010.
Damn how time flies.

Nice to hear someone else say it because it is good stuff, but you could take any couple random tracks and dig it then soon after it starts becoming wallpaper; only because the template has been laid out in your mind so there's no mystery as to what's going to happen next. There's a lot of people who become fans of someone's formula because they know what's going to happen next; it's safe. Or sometimes it's simply because it's tight and doesn't get old to them as quick. I'm sure the weed helps with that. Either way I need those unexpected turns to stay excited, in this case between a collection of songs. That said I would definitely have a great time at a Red Rocks show.

I don't think you could be further from the truth honestly. IF you kept up with him, you would know that he composed everything on his upcoming album. Yes, his technique was similar, in that he pressed all of the recordings to vinyl, and then sampled HIS OWN works, but the fact that he self-composed every aspect of that song should be noteworthy. DVS took almost 3 years off to go around the country and record people from the streets, local bands, unheard of people, famous people, MC's, whatever else came to mind. This needs to be taken into consideration for when this album is released.

I respect the dude, but if the music doesn't grab or move me then it really doesn't matter what overly elaborate method he used to record it.
I'll continue to check out new releases though.

Still, it's a nice life, though. Make some beats, tweak em live. Even if formulaic it's brought enough to play in stadiums. Can't hate on that; don't say you wouldn't want it. And apparently as someone suggested it sounds like he's expanding his technique so maybe it'll get less wallpaper-y. Plus in a live context it's gotta be way less boring especially if you got a good buzz on.
Wasn't it pretty much DIY from the beginning?
Actually I checked the mobile website earlier this morning and it is nicely

Double release because it's more than you could burn to a single CD. Aren't we done with that by now?
