I did not see this in the Manual.
My apologies if this been dealt with previously.
I really am used to pianoroll keys and midi notes sounding when I clicked. Why doesn't Live have this feature? I may be missing a configuration setting because this would be a serious shortcoming - I cannot work in a sequencer without the ability to "paint" in sound. This program is unusable for midi editing for me without it. I have put it aside for anything but audio looping.
Thanks,
Gordon

If this has been debated and decided on, could someone please point me to the page(s)?
Thanks,
Gordon

If you hold down the "Alt" key it will preview each note on the pianoroll you touch.

Thanks but I want to hear the midi note that was entered in position -moving over to the keys destroys the continuity. See, I work by "painting" a sequence of notes. I have worked this way for years now and it is essential to me.

Excellent call by the beardedone! This along with pitch indication on the piano keyboard when entering notes are what's missing from Live. It's not enough to make me cast it to the side, but it makes entering notes a pain in the ass. There has to be a future implementation of this feature. Other than that, Ableton Live 4.0.4 is a near perfect music composition software.

Hey Beardedone, thanks for the update! This is a basic feature that should have been included. I kinda understerstand why it wasn't. Live was made for live players and Dj's in mind. A live player or a Dj could give a crap whether their note insertion pointer is located on C#4 @ 02:01:00. But Ableton may not have realized that their software would attract a bunch of note "pokers" and "painters". Hopefully the future of Live will bring us more and more refined note writing and editing features as well. - Orbit-50

That's one of the features that would decide me to switch from DP to LIVE, among many others of course.
i think LIVE needs more midi editing functions, and i swear a lot of traditional DAW users like me (DP,Logic etc...) will switch very quickly...
i just can't wait !

i hope azbleton realize that, because the market is full of guy waiting for the stability of live and the versatility of traditional DAW, with some more midi power, LIVE would be a DP CUBASE and LOGIC killer !!!

I heard it from Christian when I spoke with him on the phone. He's such a cool guy even though it sounds like he a bit overworked.

i think that would be a goodfeature as well, though i wonder if the abe's left this out intentionally so that you could write midi loops live without triggering unwanted notes duringa performance.
that said, an option to turn this on or off might solve the issue.
