Fix for Tibook/MOTU 828 dropouts in OSX

Post by Geraldo » Wed Oct 09, 2002 4:36 am

I hope I found it. So far since selecting only the 828 in OSX AudioMidiSetup
I have had no dropouts even under heavy CPU load. I failed to notice I had left built-in audio controller assigned to system sounds. When I switched everything to the 828, audio has been smooth as silk. I guess if you are using the built-in controller for "pre-listen" then this is not a fix for you. But I only use LIVE for composing songs and this has (so far) solved the dropouts. Even with lots of audio clips and lots of effects and reverb and my CPU between 40-65% its been running for several hours and I have not heard one dropout. I hope this works for anyone else who has had OSX dropouts with the 828. I guess OSX can't handle multiple audio engines very well.
My setup is-
Tibook 800Mhz
1gig RAM
LIVE rewired with Reason
MOTU 828 firewire audio interface
MOTU Fastlane USB MIDI interface
OWC Firewire 60Gig HD (7200rpm)
Let me know if this works for anyone else.
