I heard from someone on another board that the Ozonic is built pretty poorly and that the software isn't up to par. I have personally had rotten experiences with two different M-Audio Ozones; the usb drivers were constantly dropping in the middle of performances, requiring a reboot.

Others will tell you that M-Audio rocks. It seems to depend upon the computer, whether the thing will work well or not. So it goes in todays computer music environment. I will say one thing, I think the Ozonic LOOKS cool.

Anyone else had actual experience with the Ozonic?

good luck choosing,

- Nick

i haven't used the ozonic, but i used its predecessor, the ozone, regularly for 6 - 8 months w/ OS X Panther. it worked like a charm - the drivers are well written (in my experience w/ it - although i agree with the previous poster that one's configuration and software programs of choice make a big difference), and its a great machine that packs in a lot of bang for the buck. i use it on my windows machine now, and it works great on xp, too. i'd recommend it to anyone.

I am currently using an Ozonic on both a (slower) Mac and a PC with absolutely no problems. Keep in mind also that this is a complete redesign and is nothing like the M-Audio Ozone or Oxygen8.

The Ozone was basically an Oxygen8 with an audio interface shoved into it and many people did experience some problems (though I never had an issue with it); but the Ozonic is a dream! First its Firewire. Next, its the first M-Audio keyboard with aftertouch so the keys feel completely different than they do on the Ozone or Oxy8. And its got an assignable joystick controller along with its knobs and faders! You should definitely check it out at your local music store to see how it feels to you.

thanks genshi for your reply,
how solid is the Ozonic firewire OSX driver any dropouts issues?
I got MOTU 828 and it has random sound dropouts with Panther,
so i use Indigo DJ PCMCIA card with my Pismo powerbook and it is rock solid, unfortunately i cannot check the Ozonic with my local dealer as it has not arrived here in Nice yet :(

I must say, I am really glad to hear that M-Audio seem to have gotten their shit together on this controller. Better late than never!

i never liked the cheezy feel of the keys on Oxygen ... compared to Edirol (Rolland) keyboards... but resentely touched M-Audio 88 keys hammer action key controller and liked the keys...

i too have hopes they they really did it this time with Ozonic .

The driver seems to be pretty solid so far with no drop outs. I'm running a 667MHz G4 powerbook.

I like the Ozonic keys better than the Keystation 88 Pro keys. Though the 88 is hammer action, it just feels too heavy and sluggish for my taste (a little too much like a real piano with not very good action; can't do fast trills). The Ozonic just feels right... almost as good as my Waldorf Synth!

nice to hear that the OSX drivers are solid!
Did you hve a chance yet to record anything with its 4 inputs at the same time at diffrent bitrates?

I picked up an Ozonic and am running it with a powerook 1.5. After some initial weirdness, all seems to be lovely now. I dig it, and rehearsed with it for a week before using it in a live show this past Sunday. Got shows the next 4 days, so I'll post back if I have any problems.

The best thing about it so far is the way it simplifies my set up even more by combining the controller and audio interface. I love using one cable for everything!
peace,

thanks Rahlo, how do you use Ozonic in your Live setup... to trigger the
loops or scenes using the keys and move the faders /mute buttons to control tracks. Do you use the prelisten outputs during the live gig, do you run a complete show of Live or do you integrate it with other gear- musicians , instruments ..?
could you describe your Live onstage setup ?
thanks in advance,
peace - milka

P.S. checked some beats on your site - great stuff and a nice forum you got there - right on!
