Ok so I'm fooling around this evening and running live 8.1.1 and i decide to redo my vst plugins
i fiddle with some folders to get the .dll files all in one place...i stupidly did this while live was running...
i moved everything to a common vst folder but i must've mistyped something....i had to go back and redo what i did but i got an windows error...(dont remember but it had to do with an invalid directory)...so i rescanned my vst folders to browse through things the way i used too. and live crashed...and everytime i start it , it crashes....it leaves the process running in my task manager panel, but there is no application in the task manager
im thinking i am going to have to reinstall and perhaps even reinstall some vsts
ugh..
btw i also run sonar and it runs fine....so i'm hopeful it will be ok with live
my question is if anyone has an easier idea for a fix!
thnx!

ugh...i messed up..do i have to reinstall??
Re: ugh...i messed up..do i have to reinstall??
OR
put all the VSTs in another (temporary) folder and see if Live will start without them??

Re: ugh...i messed up..do i have to reinstall??
Thnx
I've tried that.
I renamed all the folders..then renamed them back.. then i ran sonar and it was fine..unfortunately live just gets to the end of booting up and it just disappears...it leaves itself running in the processes on my task manager as i mentioned, but the application is gone ...i can keep trying, perhaps there is something i'm not thinking of ...

...bump..
no luck so far...another possibility i thought about overnite was to try to get the update and install that..

Re: ugh...i messed up..do i have to reinstall??
find your preferences file and delete it.
delete the Live Preferences.cfg file and try again. You will find this file in the following paths:
* Windows (Live 3): (Installation Directory)\Ableton\Preferences
* Windows (Live 4 and later versions): C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Ableton\Live\Preferences
* Mac OS 9: /System/Preferences/Ableton
* Mac OS X: /User/Library/Preferences/Ableton
Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default. Here is how to make it visible:
Windows XP/2000
1. Launch Explorer.
2. Select Tools/Folder Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."
Re: ugh...i messed up..do i have to reinstall??
Thnx so much. That worked
Strangely..when i started live, my ASIO driver for my FA66 audio interface didnt load, and it said that my ASIO pod xt (podxt being the guitar amp i use) was not available and so it started without ASIO... i could see in a log i found that this was the problem...the thing is that i didnt do anything that i thought would cause me to change my audio interface drivers!!
i was able to just tell it to use my F66, and then asio loaded fine... and i can move on but it was a pretty strange thing
thnx again!
