Novation 25SL Mk2 Problems

We have recently picked up a Novation 25sl MK2. Having a bit of trouble with it. Basically in Automap mode it is showing up the effects parameters but it does not control them. Just says no assignments in this row. Any ideas?

Hi,
I don't have a 25, but a zero SL MK2. However, for the most part (except the keyboard of course) they are very similar.
To control the devices and such in Ableton (only version 8 though - I don't know if it is possible in lower versions), you need to switch off automap, and use the ableton template. To do that, first switch off automap by pressing the automap button. Then, press the speed dial/preset knop. On the screen you should see several templates. If Ableton is not in the list, press the page right button until you see it. It should be the last button. To select it, touch the lower dial (below the endless rotaries) under the LCD that says "Ableton".
That should select the ableton template. Then, make sure you set up Ableton according to the DAW setup guide, and voila...

Are you trying to control VSTs or Ableton devices?
How can you see the parameters if it says no assignments in this row?

Yeah controlling ableton's own stuff is fine. It's just when trying to control external VST's. It shows up fine as normal however when you try turning the knob it doesnt change the parameters.

By the way this is Proliffix was signed in on my other account and didnt notice.

But I don't understand how it could say no assignments in this row but also the parameters are showing up fine? If there are no assignments in the row, that's an easy problem, the parameters haven't been assigned to the controls. But how are you seeing parameter names at the same time?

This is what we couldn't understand. Thats why I post on here to see if anyone had any ideas. It seems very strange. All the paramaters show up on the screen. And also all the sliders and pots without the LED's work fine just the LED pots dont change the parameters at all. Could it possibly be an issue with the VST?

What do you mean the parameters show up on the screen? The SL LCD screen or the automap server display on the computer screen? Are all the parameters shown in the automap display on screen?

So when you move sliders and pots, it does adjust parameters in the VST?

The parameters show on the automap server ans the SL LCD screen. But they dont change the parameters on the VST at all.

That is pretty strange. So the sliders and pots adjust parameters fine, but the led encoders don't? I was going to say maybe it's on takeover mode and you don't realize it, but that wouldn't explain the rest of them working. Maybe the parameter increments are set so low that it seems like its not adjusting it?

Just to be sure, try resetting the VST to default settings. I assume you've tried several VSTs to make sure it's not a problem with just one?

Maybe it also helps to reset the SL to factory defaults?

I am having the same problem. The top 8 encoders with the LED lights around them are not working in Automap mode when I have external plug-ins selected. I began with the Native Instruments (NI) Massive midi map opened. All the other controls work and - when the LED encoder group is selected the screen shows what it should "MACRO 1 MACRO 2 ..." - but when you turn the knob neither the LED lights nor the knob in Massive move. I tested NI FM8 as well, same thing. To be sure it wasn't just an NI thing, I tested an Apple AU plug-in, same thing.

The problem must lie within AutoMap. Probably the better place to post this problem is on the Novation forum, but it looks as though this discussion is dealing with the same issue, so hopefully solutions arise from one source or another.

Just fixed the main problem by updating to AutoMap 3.7. However, the LED light rings around the encoders are still not working... perhaps the next update will fix it. Sheesh!
