questions about Abelton in performance

Post by ud dude » Mon Aug 23, 2010 8:29 pm

HI
I am looking at the possibility of using Live as a performance synth rig on a new (used) mac book ( I am new to MAc but experienced with DAWs on PC) that I just got.
I will control it with an oxygen 8 via USB.

Here are my questions

1)when I tested it out at home I just pluged the mac audio out into my keys amp and played synths with the oxygen - it worked great. No noticeable ground loops or latency. Is this a reliable set up for giging or do I need a fancy audio / midi interface with more professional connectors than the mac 1/8 inch out put

2)I want to use the midi controller to play two different channels of synths at the same time, in effect using Live as a multitimbral synth, I understand that to play a Midi track it has to be armed for recording so how do I arm to tracks to record simultaneously.

3) I created a set with two channels of different synth and an audio channel with some loops in it. I midi mapped the auido loops to play when I hit C, C# and D on the keys, I thought that the keys would only trigger loops when that audio track was selected /armed but it triggers loops regardless. I want to trigger the loops only when that track is selected. But I do want to be able to play two synth tracks at once (Live native synths and third party and Reason via rewire)

thanks for input and feedback

1) A better audio interface than the Mac's built-in can achieve lower latency and also more I/O options (for hp monitoring etc.). It will also have better quality regarding d/a.

2) You can arm two tracks by cmd + click on each arm button. If you want just to monitor your input (i.e. the notes u send to a MIDI track's input) at a track, simply choose MONITOR IN mode instead of recording MIDI.

3)By this way its not possible to trigger these loops only when the channel is selected. You can try other things like:
-key map mode (cmd+K) and map them at computer keyboard keys
-Map a key to mute-unmute the audio track
-insert the loops to a Simpler/Sampler, so they will act as u wish
