Hello everybody,
It's a problem that was common with older midi sequencers I used before : when you record long sustained notes, i.e. a 1 minute long C note on strings, you have to playback from the start of this note so that the sequencer will trigger it by a midi "note on" command. If you place the cursor, say, at 40 secondes from the start, you won't hear the C note for the remaining 20 seconds, because the "note on" information is at the beginning of the note. I've tried other ways, like slicing my 1 minute note to 10 seconds parts, and changing the attack & release of the instrument so that the slices sound more or less like a unique long note. But you can always hear the trick : each 10 seconds the sound starts again and it sounds more like a badly looping sample or a very slow tremolo. Is there a way to force Live to retrigger "note on" informations on the notes that are under the cursor when you hit "playback" ? Or is there any other way to get around this problem ? Thanks in advance.

Re: Retrigger long sustained notes on playback
freeze/flatten to audio
keep and mute the midi track in case you need to change anything
thats my (maybe obvious) workaround...i dont think there is a midi way for exactly the reasons mentioned

Re: Retrigger long sustained notes on playback
There isn't a way in MIDI, because of the way MIDI signals work. If you miss the note on, the note won't trigger.
Freezing should do it though and you can always reverse it.

Re: Retrigger long sustained notes on playback
It happens in Pro Tools... By pressing play, halfway through a note, any currently active note will be re-triggered from that point.
But yeah, I've looked into it and it seems no other DAW will do it.
But cheers though guys... Seems freezing is the only option in Live.
