Rewire not installing

Post by udp » Thu Dec 16, 2004 4:04 pm

Recently when open Live 4.04 an authorization window opens and asks me for my pass. I enter it and I get an error saying I failed to authorize rewire will not be installed. Live then seems to work fine minus rewire. It's strange because rewire worked until early this week. I've reinstalled Live, taken Reason offline. I thought it was the Reason 3.0 beta, so I got rid of that. running OS X.2.8 on a 1 ghz g4 ugrade to a old B/W G3. Any tricks I'm missing?

Yes. It IS due to the Reason 3 beta.

Turns out the problem is that somehow installing Reason 3 Beta replaces the actual REWIRE file in LIBRARY->APPLICATION->SUPPORT with an Alias of the file. The fix for this problem is that you need to go and search your harddrive for the actual REWIRE file, and copy it and paste it back into the
LIBRARY->APPLICATION->SUPPORT folder. You may need to click on the Alias that is already in there and unlock it. Mine was locked and I had to do this. You can just click on the file and hit APPLE-I and this will "get info" for the file. Then uncheck locked. Then you can paste the REWIRE file into this folder.

Next time you launch live, you shouldn't get the authorization prompt or
the Rewire error message.

Hope this helps!

It worked perfectly. Thank you. Maybe this will help others as well.

No problem. Maybe the Abletons should make this a sticky?

I'm sure it is [hopefully] just due to the fact that it is the Beta version of Reason. Though if the final version has this same issue... that would not be good!

YEP MY PC is NOT Happy - :(
Live now after uninstalling 3.0 ans reinstalling 2.5 of Reason is very strange.
Rewire works as you'd expect with pre-programmed midi clips etc...
But I can no longer play my keyboard and hear the Reason device from within live.
As stated it transmits Midi with a recorded midi clip.
It doesn't allow realtime monitoring/playback of any Reason device what so ever from my controller.
Majorly pissed off as i use Live as my main Sequencer. :(
