free synthpop geekdance EP! recorded entirely in ableton!
Re: free synthpop geekdance EP! recorded entirely in ableton!
i like the first track the most.
like the riff on the start. also the voice is sweet - maybe some hall or delay on the voice would be cool.
and the bass starting on 2.14 on the first track I would prefer on the whole track.

thanks for the constructive criticism! hehe we did try the bass line throughout the song but we thought it would have more of an impact on the ending if all the instruments came in with a more bouncy octave bassline. =DManestra wrote:i like the first track the most.

Love it. Bubble gum POP goodness. You may consider pushing her vox through a telephone filter....just a thought. I think they could cut through a little more.

Hehe. Yep that's what we're trying to go for. We are definitely new to the whole home recording thing so thanks for the advice. I'll check out the telephone filter! We'll be releasing another EP in a few months so we'll push the vox a bit more. Thanks!ChiDJ wrote:Love it. Bubble gum POP goodness. Nice to hear a fellow geeky electropop guy (and gal)!
The music is pretty good, but the vocals are seem weak in both melody and recording quality. I would seriously invest in a better mic, if possible. What are you using now?
I had a listen with my wife and we both thought the vocals were the least interesting thing about it. No offense at all to the vocalist, but she seems to play it safe a lot of the time. They are all sung with the same delivery and stick pretty close to the same range. I think mixing up the vocals a bit more would be your best bet at the moment. It's also totally understandable if you're just starting out (which I'm assuming you are?).
Have you thought about putting any effects on the vocals? Processed vocals sometimes sound nice with this style of music, and it could be a good way to cover up some of the poor audio quality due to the mic.
The mix is pretty muddy and lacks any sort of "presence." I'd say work on EQing your layers to bring out the highs and lows.
How are you mastering these tracks? Izotope Ozone is a GREAT tool for easy mastering. I highly recommend you check it out. It's very easy to use.
I like the indie sound it has, though! A lot. I just think it could be improved with a bit of work.
I may sound harsh, but that's really because I like what I hear! If I didn't care for it, I wouldn't bother to write anything up. Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff!
