Bromance style chord progression

Post by richual » Fri Sep 10, 2010 11:30 am

Hi,

I'm looking to try to understand how to recreate the kind of chord progression sound as used in Tim Bergs - Bromance:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U3X4pxeIXA

It's the bit that starts ~= 1m12secs.

I guess my question in a broader scope is how people can listen to a sound and then recreate that with a VST? How can I learn a VST well enough (in my case Sylenth1) so that I can recreate a sound a hear, or a least a close representation of it

Thanks

Rich

Hey Rich,

There are surely many different methods, but I recommend this:
1. Find a preset you like in Sylenth1
2. Keep the one you love open, but then open another instance of Sylenth1 with the default preset.
3. Slowly change the settings in the new Sylenth1 so that it looks and sounds like the preset from Step 1.

This way forces you to start turning knobs that you would otherwise never understand. And sometimes this method can be very difficult, actually, because there might be one small thing that brings the sound alive.

Otherwise, I recommend looking at youtube videos. For example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye_wXELq ... 1&index=14
