Justin Bieber 800% slower in Live....?

Post by lolalola » Mon Sep 13, 2010 3:42 pm

I've had a go at warping Justin Bieber's "U Smile" (I'm not mental - see link below) in Ableton Live, but it's all too ''...?

http://soundcloud.com/shamantis/j-biebz ... 800-slower

I love these ambient-y textures, so was looking to try other tracks to then chop up and sample, but when I try the above method (by stretching it 8 times longer using warp), it's just not the same sound for me! :

Similar, but mine is too stringy sounding.. I put some reverb and delay on there, but any ideas how to get it sounding more like the original?

Sure. Just use Paul's extreme sound stretch like the "original" did. It's free.

Yeah, I realize that - but I asked how to do this in Live. I want to recreate this effect in Live.

That Justin Bieber track has some serious SIgur Ros stuff going on. Pretty sweet!

Set your live set to 20 BPM, drag in your audio, click on the 1st warp marker (delete all the others if you have autowarp on), and in the clip's BPM type 20 BPM. That should play the audio at it's original tempo. Now click the *2 button a bunch of times and select Complex or Complex Pro as Warp Mode. Ba Da Bing!!

Yeah, but you simply cannot get that insane audio quality in Live. Paulstretch is fantastic - I wish it were a VST, so that
we could integrate it in Live.

Wow,

I spend hours working up custom ambient sounds, and something like this gets recognition?

Yes! This! +1! That! This technology will be the end of everything; pretty soon, people won't even know how program a patch in Alchemy! The revolution is at hand!

Yeah I know I'm being a git when I say it

But I raged

and am still raging

because it does sound fucking good

Maybe I'll grab a Coldplay track and slow it down by 800%, and call it an original piece of work or something

Hey, if this gets people interested in writing granular synthesis instruments in Csound, then it's all good, even if it started with Justin Beeber.

For example:
http://csound.wordpress.com/2007/09/05/ ... in-csound/
Live 9.1 <> occasionally Reason 4.0.1 <> Reaper.latest! <> Windows 7 on a bespoke Intel Q6600 <> ASUS P5E <> 8GB RAM, M-Audio Delta 2496 and that's it.

I don't see what the big deal is with slowing down this song. If you do this with pretty much any song and get interesting results.
