Difficulties mapping MIDI foot controller

I have a MIDI foot controller that sends CC 116-120. Live sees the messages, and I can map them, but nothing happens even when controls (like play, stop, etc) are mapped.

The only workaround I've found is to use MIDI Pipe to convert the messages to note On messages. It works, but it's a hack.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Why do I need this workaround when Live seems to see the messages?

It's a yamaha mfc06. Old and simple.

I saw this old subject and I have the same problem. I can´t mapping the cc mesaage in ableton live 8 with my old yamaha mcf06. I have tried with midipipe but I´m lost in the mesaage factory options. I see that you found a solution with midipipe, can you help me to find the solution? or maybe you have a midipipe template for the cc messages yamaha mcf06? I found a midipipe template for a roland foot pedal program change and works with the yamaha mfc06 bank option but I also like use the effect/cc message option to mapping in ableton into a note message.

My guess is that ccs 116-120 are not mappable, meant to be attached to some functions.

thanks for your comment, I´m looking for a way to convert these cc messages into note on mesaages through midipipe soft. I got change the messages of bank program ( pitch bend messages) into note on messages that can be mapping in ableton live and works perfectly with ableton 8, but I can´t do it with the cc mesagges (the effects part of the yamaha mcf06 pedalboard) , any expert on midipipe here?

Is it possible you need to turn on the Remote input in the midi settings of Live?

I'm pretty sure I have had a foot pedal running through my Push, and had that triggering the 'next scene' button in Live. Not quite the same but maybe this helps!
