"Dummy" midi track for scene launch

I'm sure this will be a simple "duh!" moment, hoping someone can tell me what I'm missing.
I've got a dummy midi clip that triggers the next scene for me. The reason I can't use clip follow instead is because I've got specific bpms and time signatures on the scenes. So I've set up the dummy midi clip to trigger the next scene instead.
I've got just a single note, C3, mapped in. When it plays through, it doesn't trigger the scene I've midi mapped it to. In fact, it does nothing. But, if I play the C3 note on my controller instead, the scene DOES launch, so that's definitely mapped correctly. What am I missing here? Is there some setting I need to have on the midi clip in order to get it to send that note to the scene?
