When I export to audio/video I usually export to aiff format. To save space on my ipod I've tried to convert these files to mp3s in itunes. I've noticed that if I use my Waves L1 Ultramaximizer (which I like) on the master the aiff sounds fine, but the converted mp3 sounds horrible. It seems like the extra processing introduced by the waves plug is too much for the mp3 format. Is there something I can do in the digital realm to allow me to use the mp3 format? Perhaps I should be recording at 48khz rather than 44.1 to allow for more headroom. The L1 plug does give me different dither and bit resolution options, but I don't know how to use these. Any tips from those who have been there before?
