Mac over Windows?

Post by polass47 » Sun Oct 03, 2010 4:39 pm

Why do a lot of professional DJ's and producers use Mac OS X instead of Windows? As I know there is nothing BETTER on the Mac except the fact it doesn't need antivirus software. Am I missing something?

P.S. Windows machines allow upgrade an internal soundcard easily, Macs NOT. They need to to have an external USB soundcard....

Would like to see MacBook users opinions about stock MB soundcard. Is it okay for music production?

1: A Mac "Just works" meaning everything works, any new app you install works right away, and they never, ever, crash.
2: Macs don't get viruses, and it is impossible for a hacker to gain unauthorized access to a system running OSX.
3: All versions of Windows are bloatware running tons of services you will never need, and anti virus software, which you will ALWAYS need, in the background.

I think that view is a little extreme. No machine is perfect. Macs are just more reliable and efficient thanks to OS X.

I'm happy to see your opinions, guys. Actually there are 2 reasons why I was asking about this never ending topic: the first one is that I see that like 99% of Pro Djs use MacBooks so I thought there must be a reason for that. Number two reason is that I am going to launch I project related to DJing so I would like to know from you guys should I invest on MacBooks (DJing will be laptop based with NI Traktor on it) . MacBooks are sooo expensive that I really don't know if it is worth to spend so much money only on the laptops... I'm from Lithuania and the prices are really high for example if I buy MacBook from the "Premium Reseller" (MacBook Pro 15” Core i7 2.66GHz/4GB/500GB/HD Graphics/GeForce GT 330M 512MB/SuperDrive/WiFi/BT/Cam) it is 2170euro. MacBook Pro 15” Core i5 2.53GHz/4GB/500GB/HD Graphics/GeForce GT 330M 256MB/SuperDrive/WiFi/BT/Cam is 1940euro. MacBook Pro 13” Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz/4GB/320GB/GeForce 320M/SuperDrive/WiFi/BT/Cam is 1514 euro. And the MacBook notPro :DDD 13" 2.4GHz/2GB/250GB/SuperDrive/Geforce 320M/WiFi/BT/Cam is 1028 euro... Are these prices normal?
