replicate the old live 6 NUDGE KEEP/REVERT funct. with m4l

Post by envyro » Sun Oct 10, 2010 7:19 pm

Is it possible to make a max 4 live patch that somehow reverts any changes i do with the nudge buttons in a clip, to its original position?

What I would like to have is a way to replicate the old keep/revert functionality we had in live6.
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... dot+revert
while we could bring back this funcionality in live 7 by editing the options.txt file, this seems not to be possible anymore in live8.

I'm interested specially in having a revert button.

I don't know much about max but I was thinking if somehow I can store how many times I press the nudge button, then I can revert to the original position by adding back the number of nudges I've done.

Hope this makes sense as I'm not a native english
please tell me if I'm not being clear enough and I will try to explain myself better

this track serves as an example of what i want to acomplish
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otZwfObV_lI

I mangled the beats on this song using live's 6 nudge function. I used a pocket dial because it has endless incremental encoders that keeps adding +1/-1 values. So i mapped an encoder to the "clip scrub control" http://drp.ly/Wtbt put the global quantization settings to 1/8 or 1/16 http://drp.ly/OWQS and made the rhythm jump by rotaing the knob, while recording all the resulting midi data.

what was important here is that i was able to keep the groove from being a mess just by pressing the revert button.
I was able to bring back the clip's playhead to the original position anytime (the position it should be if i never nudged) and maintain the "musicality" and the sense of a continuous groove.

I just want to know if a patch like that is doable, and what objects or live.objects I should start looking at to accomplish that.
