How to recover a MIDI controller after a power drop down
Is there a way to recover a MIDI controller after a power lose or an accidental disconetion, while doing a live performing.
It happens with me for the following reasons:
1) A usb cable was disconnected while performing.
2) A sudden lose of power make me loose a controler.
3) A usb hub was defective.
It's very frustrating when you are performing and needs to go with just the laptop, does any one suffer the same issue?...

If the device still shows up under preferences you could uncheck/recheck Track and Remote. If that doesn't work the only way is to reopen Live.

This is very frustrating indeed, Launchpad and many others require a Live-restart to get back to work. IIRC the only controller I have that does not need a restart is a Kenton Killamix Mini... I think that may have to do with the simple and compliant drivers.
I think a possible solution would be to feed the mididata coming from the controller via a virtual midiport into ableton... but that would require an external program that can receive the mididata from the controller and route it into ableton via Midiyoke/IAC, so maybe MidiOx or Bomes or so.

Here is a tutorial for Midi Routing to Renoise but it should work the same for Ableton if your on PC. This method may introduce Latency in your setup, but it would be a minimal impact.

Totally! one of the many reasons i made the switch. Also after asking tech support, Abes just blamed the issue on windowz, so the solution is get a macbook.Radio Arcade wrote:treat yourself to a mac

be a mouth breathing Mac user

or tighten down your cables. the extra $1k you'd spend on a Mac would buy a lot of these:

I know with an APC40 you can load a set then plug APC at any point and it will work after a sec of loading(I guess the Launchpad will do the same????). Never pulled the USB cable out mid set though.....wonder if any APC40 users out can confirm this???
Re: How to recover a MIDI controller after a power drop down
don't use windows at a gig and learn how to run cables.

you can do that on a Mac, not in Windows.Captain Johnson wrote:I know with an APC40 you can load a set then plug APC at any point and it will work after a sec of loading(I guess the Launchpad will do the same????). I can confirm it's sound to unplug an APC40 mid set and plug it back in! Not advised for sure but had no probs on my MBP!!!
(I was pretty brave doing that research wasn't I ?
)

Yes. We have an award for that kind of bravery over in the Lounge.Captain Johnson wrote:I can confirm it's sound to unplug an APC40 mid set and plug it back in! Not advised for sure but had no probs on my MBP!!!(I was pretty brave doing that research wasn't I ?
