Just a small idea with warping!

So, was thinking - and I obviously might be missing something but - Warping seems to take me ages. So, instead of letting the computer detect beat 1 which can be quite dodgey, esp on real life recordings with bad transients - say practices and such - why cant we just tap along with the song an create each 1st beat ourselves? A mixture of tap tempo and warping. Get a whole song almost warped in one play. Ill kick myself if you can already do this.

So basically - youd perform with the song. At the end ableton gives an estimated tempo BUT doesnt warp it yet. But gives the approximate transients to your performance using computer witchcraft. Then after some adjustments you can warp it.

Just would be great on songs without great transients or a perfect level. Specifically songs where youd like to ADD drums and more rhythmical elements after a quick sketch of a recording.

it would most likely be innacurate and you'd be fixing the warped audio again anyway. quite possibly. i find tap tempo to be an estimate of the actual bpm you're looking for. but maybe that's just me.

But ya see, it would be alot more accurate for recordings without a clear transient. Because otherwise youve to manually create the transient for each beat one. I rarely come across recordings, or any recordings I actually want to use, that are easy to warp. Its ok if youre warping dance music, but not so great when warping s brass section. I think it would be a more efficient way to pick up where the technology leaves off.

you already can do something like this. When recording a clip, and tapping along, live will put warp markers into the recorded clip where you tapped.

So you can take a recording of a brass section, play it unwarped, and rerecord into a new clip while tapping along.

Adding to pepezabal's point, MAKE SURE the original recording is playing back unwarped. Otherwise, you get total chaos.
