Post by BarBeCutie » Fri Oct 15, 2010 3:15 am

Hi All:

Thought I would post information regarding some new free vst's.

IK Multimedia announced SampleTank Free:

http://www.ikmultimedia.com/sampletankfree/features/

WOK released TenC and 100CC effect plugins to create deep ambient spaces and choirs:

http://www.music.service-1.de/html/tenc_100cc.html

WOK also released a free Midi Arpeggiator called SimpArp:

http://music.service-1.de/html/simparp.html

Sonimus (pylorca) released a free EQ called SonEQ (getting great reviews over at kvr):

Prodyon released phenome (multitimbral soundfont player):

Download and go make some music! :)

Will that version of SampleTank work with 64-bit Windows 7?

I tried installing it from the CD I got with my padKontrol and it wouldn't install any of the samples.

Or rather, once the samples were installed, it couldn't actually load them.

We've tested (and I've run it) in 64-bit Windows 7 fine. If you can't get it to load the samples please give support a shout and they'll get you working. Thanks

On my machine, I can get it to load the samples in standalone mode, but running under live 8.2 it shows up as an effect VST instead of a VSTi, so I can't load it? anyone seen this one?

Very strange indeed! Please drop support a line and let them know so they can help sort that: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/support

discovered it was an older version of the DLL - the current version does not show up at all.

I am on Windows X64 - afaik, sampletank is a 32 bit VST correct? So I don't have to worry about 32 vs. 64 bit versions being installed? (live only does 32 bit).

I finally got the couple TRacks I have to be recognized by live. This used to work, but i hadn't used ST in a couple months, and in that time live went to 8.2 and I went to windows 7 64 bit. Not sure which one made it disappear. I tried the 2.5.5 free version, didn't seem to affect it. I am doing 'run as administrator' too. I'll drop a line to support.

Thanks this is indeed 32-bit.

just a note since i figured it out: Apparently there was something weird with the different dlls installed or something... must have tried it once before and disabled it or something. Just doing a rescan of VSTs wasn't enough to make it appear, but there's a selection for 'use custom vst folder'. Once i deselected and re-selected that, it rescanned my whole VST directory from scratch, and then it found it and works fine. Thanks!

Great :)

So, yeah. Sampletank crashes Live a lot. Nico from Ableton said this in September (on IK Multimedia plugins in general):
[nis] wrote:We have been able to find the actual cause of these random crashes and have been in contact with IK Multimedia about this. The last thing I've heard from them is that they have acknowledged the bug and are already working on a fix.
I opened a support ticket last week on IKM in order to ask about the status of this fix. I haven't received an answer yet, but after spotting this thread, I figured I'll ask here :). Do you have an estimate how the fix will be coming along? I've been taking a break from Sampletank, but tried it again in Live last week, and it made everything crash down in minutes.

I would reaaaallly like to use it, but it makes any otherwise 100% stable Live project crash and burn over here.

Still no answer :? ... Should I open another support ticket at IKM? It says "A representative will respond to you in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours" after all.
