how to use your mic?

when im in a live set mixing, how do i use my mic to talk in the middle of a mix? i had it once but i cant seem to get it ageain (i had a lot of feed back)


Im useing a creative x-fi sound card that supports asio drivers... (the Que for my headphones is coming thur the rear channel)

anyone use something similar?

i know this is relatively vague, i can supply more info if needed
