Can a Mac And A PC share one Firewire Drive

simotaneously or even one at a time but using the same drive without having to go through any reformating or trouble in doing so. if you are just saving files as wav files on each computer it shouldn't be a problem right?

actuall i dunno, but it should work if you format the hd in fat32. this formatation can be read by mac and pcs.

Network the two computers with a $50 switch, or ramp up to wireless for about $200 if you have the cash and don't want the wiring.

Set up Windows File Sharing under OS X 10.2. Your Macintosh computer and hard drive will then be available from Network Neighborhood.

Or use a crossover cable to connect the machines without a hub. Statically IP them on the same subnet: e.g. machine 1 IP 10.1.1.2, machine 2 IP 10.1.1.4. Both machines should have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

i tried sharing a firewire drive.. no luck

this was OS9 and win2k and the drive was FAT32.. the PC kept wanting to format it... i'll try again tonite with OSX and winXP

The Mac OS 9 PC Exchange component will not read NTFS or FAT32. It will read FAT16 formatted volumes.

i bought a 60 gig maxtor wondering the same thing. i just plugged it in and both my mac and pc recognized it. i didn't format the drive or install the software, but it worked fine on both machines.

now i'm wishing i'd installed it properly because i had to unplug it to shut down. now it doesn't work on either platform. sniff sniff.. all that hard work up in smoke!

ok i got it to work with OSX.. made a FAT32 partition, they both read it fine

i think the prob i was having before was partition size... w2k and xp can only format 32GB partition FAT32... i was trying to partition the whole 80gb
