anyone getting sick and tired of glitch?

just wondering.....seems more than a bit played out to me.
The sounds can be really cool but the whole idea of like 100 different drum patterns and granulated micro patterns in one track just kinda strikes me as a little obnoxious.

If I were to make an analogy I'd compare it to some shredhead guitarist like yngwie malmsteen whos style is pretty much for the guitar technique freaks and not for your average listener at all. I realize that analogy is a little harsh but I see that becoming the reality sometime in the near future...IMHO!

well yes, of course. I do listen to a bit of it and enjoy some of it but lately Ive gotten the impression that some of it is just technique for techniques sake.....know what I mean? Kinda like a dj that scratches so much that people cant groove anymore.

I was just surprised to get that impression from listening to electronic music. To me EM has always been about feeling, emotion, vibe, syncopation and funk.

anyways, just my thoughts and humble opinion.

Yea, kinda like the "glitch" thread. Its great to share techniques and all (and raw data import can be fun), but theres a certain point when using a technique to mimmick music you've heard just isn't that creative. Let's use techniques to mimmick the music in our head, not the music coming into our ears.

That is something i like about this board however, so many different and very unique users that could take 1 particular technique and go sixty different ways with it with interpretations.

Well... there are many ways to operate this musical instrument (our computers and the software) and just like I think playing a 'proper' instrument and knowing your theory is important, I'd say that learning how glitch works can never be a bad thing. You don't have to do microedits on *everything*, y'kna

It's a bit like the whole transpose the tune up a whole step for the last chorus thing. It can be really cool, but don't overdo it!

yea, i guess i just read to much into threads that start with
"how do i do this, like in this track (or style of music) ?". I'm a pessimist when it comes to that, because i think i approach things a little differently.

I was starting to get tired of the whole glitch thing recently (it's actually been around for a while now) until I recently discovered a couple of artists that do it a bit differently by mixing in live acoustic instruments and even vocals (yes vocals!) into their glitch. Check out:

...and for a more retro non-glitch vibe, check out: M83. They only use vintage analog synths and drum machines (with the occassional guitar) and have a very full '70s vibe with a modern twist!

yeah, i see glitch as a return to what electronic music is all about, it's a direct link to Luigi Russolo and the other futurists. certainly it's a little hyped at the moment so there are a lot of people trying it, but that will change on it's on as soon as the magazines start writing about something else.

i've always veiwed glitch as not being a style on it's own, seperate from everything else but more of a topping that can be applied to many different types of music. for instance, funkstorung does quite a bit of glitch hip-hop, bt does a lot of glitch pop, autechre does a lot of experimental glitch, squarepusher does a lot of glitch drum and bass, supercollider does a lot of glitch house. it seems to me that you can glitch anything. hell, glitch bluegrass even.

maybe i'm wrong, but that's how i see it, and to me it doesn't "get boring" as a whole. sure there are plenty of people who just rehash the same old crap, but i don't see glitch as a partitioned genre, i see it as a technique.

to me it sounds like the style you're bored of is glitch idm, to which i must agree. good (read: not stale) idm nowadays is rare.
