hey thanks

i've not heard of that bas jan ader guy, the links you posted are pretty interesting.

i really like a lot of luc ferrari's field recording stuff and what he does with the layering and treatment of real world sounds, so i guess there's a bit of an influence there. i like noise too, in reasonable doses

cheers

That video is what it is. It was probably shot on real film, video 8, or super video 8.

Why there is no sound to it, I dont know.

I think the artist decided not to add audio. But I am not sure. Maybe he didnt have an audio recorder.

I posted this video cause it had the same sureal dreamy atmosphere as in the Slatepipe video.

I didnt post it to make a comparison for the audio.

That was incorrect, its 8mm or 16mm film.

I've read film still has a greater capacity of catching contrast than video.

So if I had the money I would buy a Bauer or something like that, and then transfer the film to video for editing.

There has been a huge resurgence of Super-8 film in recent years due to advances in film stocks and digital technology. Film can handle far greater variations in contrast than video cameras and thus has become an alternative for acquisition. The idea is to shoot on the low cost Super-8 equipment then transfer the film to video for editing[1]. The transfer of film to video is called telecine.

i used to do loads of super 8 filming, ive given it up now though as you cant get the kodak super8 film with process paid anymore (afaik). you can get other stuff but you have to pay for processing on top and for me it works out just too expensive. especially if you are trying out a new camera just picked up second hand from a car boot sale or something and when the film comes back it's all blank as the camera is knackered. i still got a fair few cameras too. i should digitise my old films and play around with them on the computer

projecting super 8's onto the wall at home at slow speed while playing tunes with friends is/was great fun :)
