Automating objects in live?

I want to map a slider to the velocity of a note and automate it, how would this work?

This might work but i cant figure out what its supposed to do. I want to automate the velocity of a note, how can this do that when it applies to an entire track?

maybe check out the 'Velocity' MIDI device.
