Ableton SENDS: How to turn off the increase of volume?

Post by LorensLondon » Wed Nov 17, 2010 12:44 pm

Hi all,

Yes, when I am playing a track in my scene, even if I dont have any instrument in my SENDS in Ableton, when I activate them, it increases the volume of the clips in that track (the one I activate the SEND)

It works the same way if I put a PIngPOng delay for example. It will increase the volume of it!

Please, tell me how to compensate this, I DONT want the volume increase that my SENDS process in the clips.

Thank you VERY MUCH!! :)
Alex.

Hi Alex,

When you say 'activate' do you mean turning the send control on the individual track?

If you send a signal to a return that does not contain any effects then you will be hearing a duplicated dry signal - hence the volume increase. The duplicated signal is flowing through the return track and not your individual audio or midi track. It doesn't make sense to send a signal to an empty return so the solution here is simple, don't do it :-)

If you do have an effect sitting in the return, such as a ping pong delay then ensure the dry/wet control is turned all the way to the right - 100% wet. Otherwise some of your original signal will again be duplicated and you will notice an increase in volume. Even with 100% wet, if you have a delay set to a time where is repeats on top of the dry signal (ie a 1/4 note delay on a 4/4 kick drum) you will again hear the volume increase.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Keith
