ableton crashing on vista
my 8.1.3 is continually crashing on vista...any hint?
Re: ableton crashing on vista
Well I guess I'll be the first one to say it then. You need to update to the latest version 8.2.2 because:sprooz wrote:my 8.1.3 is continually crashing on vista...any hint?
a)It will show that the problem is still occuring with the latest bug fixes implemented and
b)It will show that you're not using pirated software which is highly looked down upon 'round these parts.
Also what exactly are you doing when Live crashes? Does it crash on startup? Have you ever gotten it to work?

Re: ableton crashing on vista
Live works fine on Vista in most cases. Although I am on Live 7, I know of several people running the latest 8.2.1 just fine under Vista.
BTW - people knocking Vista - Vista has been totally fine since SP2 and win 7 is really just Vista SP3 with almost 100% of the same drivers. Win 7 has slightly improved memory management and a few flashy extra features, which don't make any difference to audio or MIDI production, which uses 100% of the same drivers as Vista.
In fact, in some cases, Vista works better because most vendors have mature Vista drivers for their hardware which have been updated and refined several times, compared to newer, more immature drivers which in some cases are almost beta drivers, which is sometimes the case for win 7.

To echo others in this thread, it's a good idea to update to Live 8.2.1. Beyond that, if you're still experiencing crashes, please get in touch with Ableton technical support at http://www.ableton.com/support. For organizational purposes, please either contact from the address that you've used to register Live, or include it in the message.
Re: ableton crashing on vista
I ve upgraded to 8.2.1 but still have the same crashes, plus uge latency when I push any key...I m not even talking about my controllers...
Should I get out from Vista and Windows in general, in order to move toward Apple and Macs...what do you guys think?
BTW I run Vista on a Dell Studio 17'' core 2 duo 2.16GHz with 4GB RAM...

Re: ableton crashing on vista
I have a very similar set up, a Dell XPS M1530 C2D with 4GB ram and it runs Live, Cubase, Soundforge, Reason etc with no issues under Vista.

Re: ableton crashing on vista
I run Vista on my lappy, but the whole computer's been getting more and more sluggish lately. My desktop runs XP, and I've
had crashes on both. I'm more and more tempted to get a new laptop, with Windows 7 64 bit an i7 processor and a ridonkulous amount of RAM (currently sporting 2 GB).
