M-audio Axiom pro / Akai MPK / Korg Kontrol

Post by Mapleking » Sat Nov 27, 2010 1:10 pm

Hi,

Thanks to all the good advices on this forum, I made the plunge and bought Ableton Suite :)

I ordered an Akai MPK Mini for working on remote, but after one week of toying around with the soft, I think I will need a more serious controller for working at home.

I leave in a remote area and don't have a good instrument shop nearby. Oh yes there is a good Accordion one, but... :) So would like to have some advices of experienced user with Live to buy online.

My initial choices after reading reviews was either an Akai MPK 49 or a Korg Kontrol 49...

Now I just saw an add of someone nearby selling his one month old Axiom pro 49. But I read that there should be issues between Hypercontrol and Live 8.

I would like something sturdy, with a good range of controls and easy to integrate with Live, as I already have a lot to learn and try in Live :)

I would appreciate that you share with me your experiences with these keyboards !

Thanks and cheers for the weekend !!!

hi,

i have the Axiom Pro 49,love it!
there used to be a few issues with it and Live 8,nut it's working like a charm now,no problem whatsoever.
there is a document on the M-audio site(support section)that explains exactly how it all automatically maps to devices etc.
to me it's the best keyboardcontroller i ever used, and integrates perfectly into multiple DAWs(i also use Logic Studio 9).
the only thing i had to get used to was that the mappings are laid out horizontally (regarding the knobs),but are displayed vertically on the lcd display.
MPK-49 is also pretty good, keyboard is better than the Axiom Pro's imo, although i think the drumpads on the MPK are the worst i ever tried, squishy as hell.knobs and faders are good though, but it doesn't have the same level of automatic integration that you get with the Axiom Pro 49 or Novation Remote SL's.
quality wise,i'd go for either the Axiom Pro or MPK,Novation remote sl's are okay-ish,but the build quality is crap(especially the endless pots, after a while of using them they sometimes get "glitchy" when you turn them).

Thank you !

I found the document and it seems very exciting of controlling all the keyboards and effects with the knobs automatically assigned.

Let's hope the guy didn't sold it already

Cheers !
