Any advice?
Using one effect on more than one channel
Using one effect on more than one channel
How'd you add one effect to more than one channel. I want to use the fade to grey effect from the audio effect rack as a gradual fade out on all my audio channels but i dunno how to use it without dropping it onto all channels individually and then turning it up or down from there
Any advice?

Put it on the master?
There are other ways, but that's the simplest

Right click / insert return track. Make sure you have the S and R buttons on the right margin enabled. Put the effect on the return track. Use the sends knob to route the tracks outputs to the return track. Set their output to 'sends only' if you want an all wet signal. Make sure the return tracks output is set to master.

that's the worst advice, he said more than one, not all.Angstrom wrote:Put it on the master?

Your point is moot if you don't give him some good advice to back it up..dj_blueprint wrote:that's the worst advice, he said more than one, not all.Angstrom wrote:Put it on the master?

If it's something like a delay, reverb, etc throw it on a Return track, all the way Wet and use your Send knobs to send different tracks into that effect.. this wont work for things like filters, etc because you will hear the dry signal as well as the effected signal - look up Magic Sends for a neat trick to get this to work..
I'm assuming you don't want to just toss the same effect on multiple tracks? saving on CPU is nice but so is tweakability, cheers
Re: Using one effect on more than one channel
Group the tracks you want to effect and then place the effect on the group channel.

Yeah, if you want to effect just a few tracks but not all of them, and you don't want to add the effect "on the side" (which I imagine is the case with Fade to Grey) then track groups are the way to go.
Re: Using one effect on more than one channel
or you could open an audio track and route the tracks you want to affect output to the new track and place your effect on that track...like grouping but slightly different

I'm just against using any effects except a limiter on a master channel.
Re: Using one effect on more than one channel
no worries,
I just got the impression that this guy (OP)is at the "not sure what the hell I am doing, just messing around trying to get shit to happen" stage. Obviously hasn't discovered groups or inter-track routing.
I think it's best to just supply the absolute easiest possible answer when people are at that point.
Also, good to remember there are no real rules, only guidelines, and they are just waiting to be broken.
Only today I was playing around with an instance of Reaktor on the Master track. It was a beautiful thing!
