I've been trying for a while (and am still trying) to get the beat chopping functionality of the EFX models inside Ableton. For those unfamiliar with the EFX, here's Mr. Zabiela showing the function that I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M8Rwev5 ... re=channel
Of course, the basic recording of a loop is not the issue but the manipulating of it so as to kind of sculpt new rhythms and loops from the original by essentially just adding pockets of delay were you want but that become a permanent fixture to the loop.
Hope this makes sense... And thanks in advance for any insights or ideas anyone has (I have seen another EFX thread elsewhere here but it's not quite what I'm looking for).

Re: Pioneer EFX 500/1000 emulation...
I would like to do this with my Padkontrol and beat repeat.
Ableton should be able to just record clips rather than using the echo effect as a sampler.
Also it should be easier to get 16 bar loops and stuff.
So looping and multieffects are in order...
looper or a track for recording clips + crossfader is a place to start?

The sampling/recording part isn't really the issue, it's the manipulation that I can't figure out how to implement. Maybe it just can't be done in Live.
I'll keep trying when I've got time though.

Mister36:
I was also searching for this feature some time ago, the beat repeat effect is what your're looking for!
This is how you should configure it to behave like the EFX unit:
Set "Chance" to 0
Set the output mode to "Ins"
Press "repeat" where you want to beging the looping and the play with the "Grid" dial!
The "offset", "interval" and "gate" dials become unnecessary while in repeat mode (when the chance dial is set to 0)

Re: Pioneer EFX 500/1000 emulation...
Thank you for the suggestion but this is not what I am looking for. The Beat Repeat device can be used to work like the delay on the EFX but not the feedback loop function, though it will probably be a part of it. One problem is that the control for grid is a dial and therefore precision for each timing is slower than the EFX, which has buttons devoted to each increment. It is a shame these cannot be mapped to buttons, the same goes for the increments in the Simple Delay where on the GUI they even are buttons.
I'm wondering whether it would be possible to set up the APC40 step sequencer to trigger five (one for each note on the APC matrix) Beat Repeats in an effects rack, each effect being set to a different grid value... It would probably have to be set up in a dummy clip routed to the track with the effects rack on it and maybe two notes per value would be needed to turn the effect on and then off again. Just thinking really. I'll try it out some time. It would give the desired effect, just not in the same way.
Ideally, I'd like to set up the stop clip buttons on the APC40 to be each for a different grid/delay time value and maybe use a fader or knob to be the EFX's switch.
