Access Virus TI: discreet channels with discreet effects?

Post by kringe » Tue Nov 30, 2010 5:39 am

Hi,

I Think I'm kidding myself here, but I wanted to find a way to individualize separate parts of audio from the Virus into separate channels in Ableton. For instance I want to have a pumping keychained compressor on some chords in one track, and then in another have a long bass note that isn't being 'effected' by the same compressor that is effecting the chords. This compressor is on the 'host' track that the Virus is instansiated.

I mean, if you are composing with multiple parts from the Access Virus TI and want to apply separate effects to separate parts while experimenting, how do you do that? It seems like you can only, really, have one-2 channel stereo input into the DAW, and that separate midi channels just trigger the different parts and all the parts only come into the one-2 channel input into Ableton.

I don't have a TI but I think it works like any other multitimbral synth. Just setup your TI's midi and audio channels and then use Live's external instrument (found under Live's instruments) on midi channels.

i have a Virus TI KB mk1 and use it regularly with Live 8.
Its easy progress for what you need to do.
Each part 1 to 16 in the virus TI control can be selected for an output. The first thing you need to do is decide your routings.
The virus can have alternative USB outputs plus 3 analog outs.
The USB config can be set as 2 out or 1 in 3 out. if you dont use your TI as the main audio card for your DAW then set it to 1 in 3 out. This is much more versatile as you can route audio from live in to the TI via the USB in. for vocoder/atomizer etc; and back again to record the results. The output setting for each part is done easily by right clicking the D button by the part mixer. The options come up then. The default setting is 2 out so to change it to 1 in 3 out. then go to config / common.

when selecting the correct audio channels then live mixer will automatically allocate an audio channel within the track containing VC. this is usb1 on part 1. to select usb2 or usb3. take inputs from the plugin. you will see the option for 2 and 3 come up.

the best way to use the virus ti is through external instruments. it allows freezing and rendering and also the use of all audio outs.

i got to know this recently and posted on the infekted forum here of how to do.

since i wrote that i found that its easily possible to access usb out 1 and offer that as a freeze track.

the freeze track is fab as it makes the ti a lot more powerful. as general it will only go 4 or 5 simultaneous parts before losing steam.
If only computers switched on and behaved themselves.
