No midi output with 'new' file

No problem hearing midi in the demo files supplied, or "clicking" on
midi keyboard and hearing midi instruments when one of the demos
is loaded and playing, but...

When I create a new file, open the midi editor, and (alt) click the
notes.... nothing. When I create a midi track in the midi editor and
play it back.... nada.

I've gone through all the system settings ad infinitum to no avail.
Any thoughts please?

when u play a midi clip is monitor set to auto ? u will see the pie graph moving around this means the clip is playing and ur instrument should be working.. when u want to play using a kepboard select monitor to on but make sure midi from has ur keyboard selected as well.
