i quatro with iBook 500mhz.
works like a charm in 9.2.2 and OSX
latency in X is like 2ms
in 9.2.2 its 5ms or so
i use an external firewire drive for my samples.

i use the the session view.
no fx (except compresser on the master buss) (sometimes grain delay on single trax)
my recent set (which is about 1hr long) has about 80 samples and 8 trax with about 10 samples each track. some long clips (5min) some short (1-4 bar loops)
i trigger them from midi from my oxygen 8.

the display doesn't update in real time alot of times, but the audio is rock steady.. i usually have drum loops all with diff start points and i trigger them like a drum kit very quickly.. the screen is often not updating fast enuf.. but i can hear whats going on...

i'm sure on a faster laptop.. live would screem.

for perf trix:
turn off networking (i have a location of Live where there is no networkign active) and sharing of any sort
turn off any visual trix.. make sure nothing extrainous is running. (do a ps -aux in the terminal to find any stray proccesses)
a fresh reboot to clear any virtual memory thats stuck
running off my FW drive is the biggest help.
