for many of us who use ableton on more than one laptop it would be useful to have a preference sync that could sync to your account so when you sign in/authorise on other computers you had the option to sync your preferences.

Plus one for this! being able to sync Favourites, Display Settings, default template etc would be very useful. If Ableton don't want to create the online storage side of this, basic integration of preferences via the file system and Dropbox / Google Drive / iCloud etc would be a great way to achieve it. Would merely require preferences to be stored externally in a file, then give the ability for this file to be stored in a custom location on the local drive (and thereby synced via a cloud storage solution). Thanks for considering!
