Hi all, I just bought a Novation 49SL MKII, and I'm becoming crazy setting it in Ableton.
First problem
- in the manual is written to set MIDI Sync in this way: control surface "RemoteSL" - input "SL MkII (Port 2)" - Output "SL MkII (Port 2)"
I can't see "SL MkII (Port 2"), but only "MIDIIN2 (2- SL MkII)" and "2-SL MkII"
Second problem
in MIDI ports, I should find "SL MkII (Port 1)" and "Remote SL Input (SL MkII (Port 2))"
but I can't find "SL MkII (Port 1)", only "2- SL MkII"
Becouse of this I have these problems:
1) in VST list, I see "Automap" to the side of VSTs, but when I open a VST I can't see Automap icons to the bottom of VST (the red "A" and others Automap icons);
2) the only way to use the mixer and transport buttons throught the Novation SL is to turn off "Automap" button on SL MkII; if on SL MkII I push "Mixer" button, I see it on Automap window, but Ableton mixer can't catch any command.
Somebody can help me?
Thanks)

Re: Problems with Ableton and Novation SL MkII
Hi, what version of Live are you using? Also, have you tried setting up the controller manually, without Automap? Enable "track" and "remote" for the input from the controller, under Preferences->MIDI, and then enter MIDI mapping mode.
Re: Problems with Ableton and Novation SL MkII
Hi David, I have 8.2 version of Ableton live.
"Track" and "Remote" for the input are setted yet. I control some VST if I disable Automap, and also I can use transport buttons. But Why I can't use Automap? I thought tha all is very easy with this software, but it isn't.

Re: Problems with Ableton and Novation SL MkII
Greetings Eagle,
I have got the same information on the ports as you do. And i cant even get into the advanced mode template of ableton Live. I just get a message saying: "Please select a device in live to edit it..." followed by another one stuck on: "ableton ***wait***". I have seen a few posts in the Forum regarding this issue but no answer came out of it.

Re: Problems with Ableton and Novation SL MkII
on mine, you use midiin2 (2 - SL MKII) and midiout2 (2 - SL MKII) as the remote interface.
in the main window, make sure you have automap midi, both remote and track.
and then you must also use the plugin manager to automap-wrap your plugin.
even then you may have issues.. for example, kontakt doesn't export any parameters
by default, you have to do that in kontakt before they are available for automap
to set up. Other times, you have to use the ableton 'configure' tab to make them
visible (i think kore was like this, and some smaller things like ddmf iieq pro).
that 'ableton ***wait***' sounds like the remote sent something to ableton it didn't get back,
which means that your remote input port is right, but not your output port, so try a different
one until you find the one that works

Re: Problems with Ableton and Novation SL MkII
Thank you theophilus,
I implemented your configuration and it seems to work like you said it would with the Ableton template.
Now it doesn´t get stuck anymore. So I am going to run it like this until i have more information from the Novation Support.
It´s weird though that the Automap midi is the one commanding the communication port with the SL MKII, but looks like you´re right because i installed the remote SL MKII beta Editor to tweak some functionalities and it only recognized the automap midi port as well. I haven´t tried any plugin yet though so I don´t know how automap will perform with them.
Again thanks for the help.
