DMGs VSTs Bad Memory

If I install a vst and then a few weeks later, or few minutes later, forget that I installed it and install it again, does anyone know if it just writes over it, or does it actually get written twice/taking up more HD space? I looked around and it doesn't seem to do this, but thought i'd ask just to make sure.
