Universal Audio uad2 solo laptop

Post by marro » Thu Jan 13, 2011 12:29 pm

Hi,

my music production teacher has recommended i buy this, he said abletons built in audio porcessing units are not good enough for professional sounding tracks.

is this the best available in its price range or should i consider other ones?

personally i dont like the EQ as its knob based and not visual/chart like the ableton EQ

thanks for the advise

You don't need to get an external box like the UAD for quality plug ins, though certainly the UAD ones are some of the best out there. Lots of native options too, some of the Voxengo stuff is steller and very well priced. That said, if you're new to producing, it's not going to be the quality of the plug ins holding you back, I know many people who release professional material using only Live plug ins.

thanks for that, im only at it a year now and not spending alot of time on it due to work and other hobbies, maybe 3 - 4 hrs a week.

so maybe i should not buy it for now then, cos its alot of money

what would be the most common one for bedroom producers yet good enough for professional sounding releases? (reasonable priced)

The live plugs are definitely good enough for professionals, your teacher was wrong.

Agreed, it's all about what you do with the tools at hand. Dig into Live's effects first, learn them inside out, then, if you decide something doesn't quite work for you look for 3rd party replacements. It doesn't make sense to go spending a lot of money on something you're not even sure you really need yet.

remember: those who CAN'T, teach.

being 'professional' is 100% to do with the human behind the controls and 0% to do with the tools available.
