Delete clip from hardware
Currently the only way to delete a clip is using the mouse or keyboard. The APC 40 and APC 20 can't do it, the Launchpad can't do it, and the Live Object Model does not let you do it yourself. You can record a clip using hardware commands, but once you've written to a clip slot, there's no way to empty it.
This makes it really hard to record clips during a live performance, because it requires you to get it right the first time.

this can be done from launchpad using automap mode. All you need to do is assign a key combination to a button. In my user mode I have a few buttons mapped like this. Apologies if this isn't the solution you require.
Re: Delete clip from hardware
I would love to do it with my apc40. If someone has a solution he is more than welcome in the conversation

Yes, you can do it. It needs two external (but free) programs. Use midi yoke and bome's midi translator. I made a tutorial for a different controller but process is the exact same. hope this helps

Re: Delete clip from hardware
I'm reading about the new beta for Live and M4L, and wondering if this problem is now solved? "Live objects like tracks, clips or parameters retain their identity (id nn) during operations like move, save/restore, cut/paste, delete/undo, the identity is global and can be communicated
via Max's Send and Receive objects." (Source: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=158999)
That would seem to imply that clips can be moved and deleted -- but it doesn't say so directly. If anyone has more concrete evidence I'd love to know.

Hi Ableton
I'm using Live for production but also a lot for live looping using two launchpads.
I have a simple request.
I would like to be able to overwrite a loop in the session view, if the track is armed and I activated the loop.
With this option I would not have to delete loops when the launchpad is filled up. PLUS it would give me a better overview because I did not have to make a new loop every time I had to redo my live looping because I made a mistake...
When you're live looping you don't have time to grab the mouse or even think about deleting old loops.
This is what I do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UckSiUuX7zY

Jakob: That's awesome!
I don't speak on behalf of Ableton, but if the LOM has been changed with the new update to allow one to move and delete clips using M4L, then it should be possible to do what you're talking about to audio clips, by using a parallel audio track. Say you initially record into track A. If A sends to B, and B is also listening to the mic, then if you mute the monitor out from A while telling B to record, then B will record both what A is playing and what you're saying. Then you'd just want to bounce the clip over to track A once you're done.
I don't know whether the clip could keep playing as it's moved. It would probably be the same as whatever the behavior in Live is with the mouse, if you drag a playing clip from one slot to another.
