fast scrolling in ableton w/ apc40 or apc20

Post by piotto » Sun Jan 23, 2011 3:09 am

hi,

i dj many genres with ableton live, with tempo varying from 60 to 160.
the document i created is pretty large, with more than 500 scenes.

i own both apc40 and apc20 and scrolling is a pain.

i don't really care about scrolling sequentially the first 125 scenes through some apc shorcuts and then having to do it manually from the 126th scene to the end of document.
what i'd like to get is some shortcuts to scroll from the top of session to 25% / half / 75% / and bottom of the same session.
some kind of "big-steps fast scrolling", and then adjust the 8x5 grid with some up/down buttons fine-tuning.
hope it makes sense.

if for instance i wanna change dramatically genre, and the new genre is at the bottom of the document, i need to keep scrolling like an idiot all of the lines, one after the other, instead of having a shortcut to get there immediately.

i know, i can get there with the mouse/trackpad, but then the 8x5 gridwon't follow automatically, and i would still have to position it properly if i want to continue djing from that section of the document...

any ideas for some fast-scrolling on large documents, with proper repositioning of the 8x5 grid?
thanks much

You can do this with either Python and changing the Control Surface Script or through MaxforLive...
