Maschine question

Post by eegee » Tue Jan 25, 2011 12:06 am

I posted this on the NI Maschine forum and havent really gotten any responses. Hopefully somebody here can help:

Newbie here.

I imporated a sample into Maschine. I then sliced it, removed a few of the slices and mapped the rest to convenient (but out of order) pads. I then saved the sound expecting to be able to open it in a new project and have it just the way I left it: 4 out of 8 slices mapped out of order. However, it just seems to load the original unsliced sample.

Did I do something wrong when saving it or are my expectations on how this works just wrong? I dont come from a MPC background, so I may just not get it...

Thanks,
EG

I'm not 100% sure. But I believe that when Maschine "slices" a sample it does the same thing ableton does and actually just assigns the start and end times at different points on 1 sample. So instead of turning your 1 sample into 8 smaller samples- you have your original sample and 8 pads mapped to different edit points on your one sample.
You could try actually duplicating your sample by hand to the pads you want to use- and then after setting the slice points go under edit and truncate the samples.
Theres probably an easier way to do this but I haven't had too much time with my maschine yet...

Ah - so it sounds like when I save the sound, which is a .msnd file, it doesnt preserve all of that slice point and mapping info. If that is the case, what do you actually get when you save a sound and how is that different than the .wav you imported?

Thanks for the response.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I havent had enough time to play with Maschine :D

I would try saving it as a group or a kit (I think its called) or whatever it is that is one level above an instrument and one level below a project.
