Board full of drama queens?

Post by adrome » Thu Jan 20, 2005 8:56 pm

Just stumbled upon the ableton forums in the last couple of days, and have been reading a good bit while at work. Even mentioned the boards to another producer buddy of mine, because I was impressed with the knowledge of some of the crowd and there perspective.

But honestly, you lot are whining like a bunch of high school drama queens right now. How many of you who are bashing this new synth have actually listened to it? I just downloaded it and the thing sounds fucking amazing. It might not be quite as pretty as FM7, but you know what? Record labels don't give a shit how pretty your VSTi was when they get your CD-R. While were at it, I own FM7 and use it a fair bit. It's a decent piece of kit, but far from perfect... for one, the low audible output is a huge drawback.

I'm not going to sit here and praise, bash, or compare Operator yet, because I want to first investigate the product more so I can make a sound decision.

And of fucking course ableton will let you get rid of the demo if you don't want the product.. jesus, you guys act like you've never seen how they handle product support.

Quit whining people.. it's your own fault you fell victim to the hype.

I think it sounds nice. It just eats my cpu and I'm on a powerbook with zero room for a cpu hog. No big deal. I just won't buy it.
I think everyone's pissed because there are some things in Live that need to be worked out. It seems the abletons have been busy making this rather than adding much-asked-for features like plugin delay compensation, altivec support, dual-proc support. etc.

On the contrary, I find people in this forum to be helpful and generally eager to share advice, info, and tips.

your sentiments are yours so valid but..... I don't think people are whining about operator vs. any other synth, people..(abletons user base) are sick of synths, they don't give a fuck what it sounds like. it sounds like you missed that bit, doesn't have much to do with hype of a great sounding synth it was hype that they thought operator was something else completely, theres a big difference,

8O They have product support?

I wouldn't know, I've never had any problems with Live to warrant a call to support. :D
The question is not whether or not you are influenced, but rather what it is that influences you.

For the most part, I think the criticisms of Operator are well justified and well documented. Sure, there's a few "wow this sucks" kind of useless posts, but for the most part what you'll find here is an analysis of how it stacks up feature and price-wise against what else is available on the market.

And, yes, there's some justifiable moaning about "why this when there are Live features that still need to be fixed." That's going to happen.

3 posts into a forum and you're calling us a bunch of drama queens? Nice first impression.

Not all of you, but there was a lot of whining and bitching in the large Operator thread.

Well, so what? Some people don't like the product. Some don't like the price. Where other than here to let Ableton know that?

There are some direct comparisons of FM7 and Operator in the main operator thread, but fair enough to those who don't want another synth. I personally just thought a good bit of the post were over dramatic, but to each his own.

I'll bow out now...

Whining about whining people is some sort of whining.
