pointless feature, whats the point in going to all the effort of mixing and finalising a track only to then compress it into mp3?

Couldn't disagree more. I use Ableton for work (flash games) and its a great pain to use Audacity or Switch on EVERY single file.

Adding an MP3 export option would increase the cost of Live since Ableton would have to pay royalties to Fraunhofer (IIRC) to use the codec.

Personally I really don't care that Live doesn't have an option to export to MP3 because it takes all of 15 seconds to switch to iTunes, drop the rendered .aiff in, and select "Create MP3 Version" from the menu.

have you tried this one?

it's great cause it has a batch converter. So have all the wave files that you want to convert in 1 folder then use the batch converter to convert all of them at once. it's great.

personally, I'd rather have ableton put their time into developing better PDC, bezier curves, etc. all those necessary DAW things. And also put time into their innovative stuff like M4L. MP3 export isn't all that necessary.. convenient but not necessary.
