Recording External Audio - Low Signal :-(

Post by broken_specs » Sun Feb 13, 2011 3:24 pm

Hi All,

I really hope someone can help with this as it's really stressing me out!

I use an Audiofire2 soundcard with Ableton ver 8.2, and have recently been building up a setup that includes some external synths and an external mixer (mackie sr24-4-vlzpro).

Today I got to the stage where I wanted to record sound coming from the mixer back into the computer (ideally ableton). Problem is, no matter what config I try, the signal is very low.

The mixer has various outputs which i've alternated between - Tape Out, Control Room Out, Main Out; all of which have the same result. The soundcard has 2 x 1/4" jack inputs, which have received a connection from of all of the aforementioned sources.

The Echofire has a s/w mixing console to control levels in and out, and the "Analog In" faders are both pushed up to the maximum level, as is the "Analog Out" faders.

During all of my tests, the Mackie is omitting a high signal - i've tried recording to a yamaha tape deck via the mackie's "tape out" and the level is great. This is what makes me think it's somethiong to do with the soundcard/computer setup.

Does anyone have any ideas? I don't really know what to do next :-(

Simon.
