Effects on Clips. Question

I frequently find that when I apply an effect to one of my Clips, it plays on all of the clips in that track.

Sometimes I copy and paste a clip to the clip below so I have two versions and apply effects to the 2nd one making an alternative version.

But the effect then seems to apply to both clips.

Other times it seems to work but I am not sure what I did differently.

If there a way to avoid this? I wanted effects to work on separate clips.

Perhaps I need to focus entirely on Arrangement recording or Session recording and not mix the two?

for each clip in Clip View there are envelopes to turn the effects on and off. apply those accordingly to each clip.
