Microphone "skipping," when recording(?)

Post by So-Fi » Wed Mar 02, 2011 8:42 pm

Hi there

To make a long story short, I'm currently recording on a Tascam US-122 MK II with a Supreme CU-1 Condensator Microphone, and when I record into Ableton, there's delay of about a second, and when it records, it sort of "skips" every second, leaving tiny holes with no audible sound.
I was originally intending to get my money back from the store I bought it from, as I've read that there are problems with the Windows 7 drivers for US-122, but I got it fixed with assistance from the store, and now that I'm ready to record, this problem occurs - typical!

What seems to be the issue here?

Have you looked into latency and buffering? I used to have a US122l (the silver one, not the black). I recorded using a condenser mic a few times, didn't have any problems aside from latency, which can be fixed easily using a combination of direct monitoring and the latency-compensation settings in Live (there's a lesson that walks you through it). I've heard that for the latency compensation to work, you need to ensure that monitoring for the recorded track is set to off. Hope that helps a little...
